BLife

BLife is a Vietnamese assistive communication initiative from the University of Engineering and Technology at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. It develops a system that enables people with severe movement and speech impairments, including those caused by ALS, to communicate and interact using only eye movements. Designed specifically for Vietnamese users, the system incorporates a Vietnamese text-entry method developed by the research team and protected by an exclusive patent.

Through on-screen controls, users can write text and have it spoken aloud, make notes, compose emails, browse the web, use social networks and messaging services, and access online video and television. The system also helps users express their needs and health status, communicate with family and friends, and retain information. BLife emphasizes accessible use through simple practice exercises, flexible operation in different user positions, and a price stated to be one-fifth that of comparable international products.
