Blindenfuehrhundschule

Blindenführhundschule Kleverland is a guide dog school based in Kleve, Germany, led by Nina Jonas and a team of trainers. Its work helps blind and visually impaired people travel more safely and independently with a dependable guide dog. The school supports each partnership from early planning through training and ongoing follow-up. It first gets to know the prospective handler, then selects a puppy suited to that person. Puppies are raised in a home environment, with their development monitored for future guide work and opportunities for the prospective team to become familiar with one another.

Training teaches dogs to recognize and avoid obstacles, locate entrances and traffic signals, and respond reliably to a range of spoken cues. The tailored orientation programme takes place in the handler’s everyday surroundings, combining practical route training with guidance on dog handling, daily routines and building a strong relationship. Training days are adapted to each team, and the course concludes with a partnership assessment.
