Bliss Foundation is a Hungarian nonprofit organization established in January 1987 through donations from individuals and companies. It works to make augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) methods and tools available to people who cannot rely on speech, helping them express thoughts and participate in communication. The foundation takes its name from Charles Bliss, who created the graphic, nonverbal Blissymbolics system in 1949.
Bliss Foundation provides a range of communication and rehabilitation services, including comprehensive communication assessments, AAC consultations and advice, play groups, communication development using AAC, physiotherapy, and speech therapy. It also offers courses, training, and education related to special education, rehabilitation, and communication support. Its approach focuses on identifying communication tools suited to each person’s needs.
Based in Budapest, the foundation serves families and works to expand awareness and use of AAC in Hungary. Individuals and companies can support its work through bank card donations, corporate contributions, and Hungary’s designated one-percent tax donation program.
