The Bloomington Book Festival is a community-focused literary event celebrating authors, storytelling, and the written word in Bloomington, Indiana. Its annual program brings readers and writers together for author conversations, book signings, and special presentations, while supporting the work of BloomREADS. The 2026 festival takes place October 25 and features the third annual Bob Hammel Writing Award.
Journalist and New York Times bestselling author Wright Thompson is the award recipient and keynote speaker, appearing in conversation with Bloomington native and bestselling novelist Michael Koryta. The program highlights their work, influences, and perspectives on writing, with books available for signing after the event. Attendees can purchase individual tickets or book bundle tickets, and students with a college ID may attend for free.
The festival also invites community participation through its planned 2027 Community Expo and recognizes the support of local sponsors. Through engaging literary events and community partnerships, the Bloomington Book Festival offers readers an opportunity to connect with acclaimed authors and contribute to a local literacy-focused cause
