The Bloomsbury Colleges, comprising Birkbeck, SOAS, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, is committed to sustainability through a dedicated joint sustainability team. This team is funded by the three institutions, with a stable budget allocated annually to support various environmental projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing ecological responsibility. The colleges focus on critical areas such as waste and recycling, energy efficiency, sustainable purchasing, and biodiversity.

Under the leadership of Ola Bankole, the Head of Sustainability, and Sian Reilly, the Sustainability Officer, the team actively engages students, staff, and visitors in eco-friendly practices while implementing the colleges’ comprehensive Environmental Management System. Key energy and resource efficiency projects are led by Stephen McKinnell, the Head of Energy Management. Each college also boasts a sustainability group made up of professional and academic staff, further driving collaborative projects and educational efforts in sustainability. Through these initiatives, the Bloomsbury Colleges aim to make significant strides towards environmentally sustainable practices in higher education.
