About Bluegrass Railroad Museum
The Bluegrass Railroad Museum is a volunteer-run nonprofit in Versailles, Kentucky, dedicated to preserving and sharing the state’s railroad heritage. Established in 1976, it restores and operates historic railway equipment and offers visitors a chance to experience railroad history aboard a moving train. Its scenic excursions travel through the Bluegrass countryside, passing horse farms, limestone cuts, and river landscapes on historic track originally laid in the 1880s. Rides run on weekends from April through September, with seasonal events including the Pumpkin Express and Santa’s Holiday Express, as well as special family excursions.
Visitors can explore a collection of diesel locomotives, passenger and freight cars, and cabooses, along with interactive exhibits about Kentucky’s role in the development of American railroads. The museum also presents historic artifacts and educational programs, including activities for children and engineer-for-a-day packages. Located at Woodford County Park, the museum welcomes visitors to its exhibits and invites them to book train rides, arrange group visits, become members, donate, or volunteer.
