About Blue John Cavern
Blue John Cavern is a visitor attraction in Castleton, in Derbyshire’s Peak District, known for its remarkable underground caverns and distinctive Blue John stone. The site presents a series of limestone caverns regarded as among Britain’s finest and offers an educational look at how caves form and how ancient marine deposits created the limestone. Guided cavern tours are available daily, weather permitting, with the first tour starting at 10:00 am and the last at 3:00 pm.
The attraction also welcomes school trips and provides a café for light snacks at weekends. Visitors can explore the on-site gift shop and online store, which feature jewellery and gifts made with Blue John. Products include pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches, cufflinks, pill boxes, chains and slices of the stone, alongside distinctive items such as kilt pins and vintage spoons.
