About BMDCA
The Bernese Mountain Dog Club of America (BMDCA) is the licensed parent breed club for the Bernese Mountain Dog and a member of the prestigious American Kennel Club. Established in 1968, the BMDCA is dedicated to the advancement, protection, and health of this beautiful breed. The club is governed by a Board of 10 Officers and Directors who are elected by the membership, ensuring that all decisions are made in the best interest of the Bernese Mountain Dog community.
The BMDCA actively establishes committees to carry out their important work, such as Breeder Education, Health, Judges Education, Drafting, Agility, Performance, and Recognition. Regional Clubs affiliated with the BMDCA create a network of support for Bernese Mountain Dog owners, including breeders, owners, and fanciers. They offer a variety of activities and programs, such as meetings, matches, Draft Tests, BMDCA Regional Specialties, and educational programs.
The BMDCA is also committed to education and offers various publications, including the award-winning quarterly magazine, The Alpenhorn, which covers all aspects of Bernese Mountain Dog ownership. They also publish an Information Series covering important topics like health and buying tips. Moreover, the BMDCA hosts significant events throughout the year, including the National Specialties that showcase the breed's conformation, obedience, and working abilities.
Regional Specialties, as well as working events like Draft, Rally, and Obedience, further highlight the Bernese Mountain Dog's natural abilities as a working dog. Membership in the BMDCA grants access to valuable resources, including a comprehensive Yearbook containing records, pedigrees, and photos of top winners, versatility and working dog awards, and more. Members also receive a monthly newsletter with updates on club activities, new member applications, committee positions, and board minutes.
