About BMW Guggenheim Lab
The BMW Guggenheim Lab was a groundbreaking initiative between the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation and the BMW Group, running from 2011 to 2014. Acting as a mobile urban think tank and laboratory, it traveled to New York, Berlin, and Mumbai.
Combining the elements of a community center and public gathering space, the Lab aimed to explore new concepts and generate innovative projects for city life. Focused on themes like Confronting Comfort, Making, and Privacy and Public Space, the project delved into how people engage with cities and public areas today. Led by diverse Lab Teams comprising talents from various disciplines, including urbanism, architecture, art, and sustainability, the Lab offered free programs, projects, and public discussions.
In each location, the Lab tailored its activities to address the unique challenges and opportunities of the city, engaging with local communities and sparking creativity
