Bømlo kommune er ein godt utbygd øykommune i Sunnhordland med ca. 12.200innbyggjarar. Kommunen er landfast via Trekantsambandet. Bømlo har allsidige service- og kulturtilbod, gode fritidstilbod, vakker og variert natur og gode kommunikasjonstilhøve. Bømlo kommune vart oppretta i 1916, då Finnås kommune delte seg i kommunane Moster, Bømlo og Bremnes. I 1963 slo kommunane seg saman att, til Bømlo kommune. Organisasjonen Bømlo kommune er organisert i ein to-nivås modell med ein kommunedirektør, tre kommunalsjefar, samt verksemdsleiarar med resultat-, budsjett- og personalansvar. Strategisk leiargruppa omfattar kommunedirektør, tre kommunalsjefar, personalsjef og økonomisjef. Dei har overordna ansvar for heile den kommunale verksemda, alle tenester som kommunen gir, planlegging, økonomi og personalforvaltning. Øverste leiar er kommunedirektør Kjetil Aga Gjøsæter. Bømlo kommune har over 1000 tilsette. Kommunen er ei IA-bedrift og fekk Arbeidsmiljøprisen 2012. Kommunen har to heileigde aksjeselskap - Bømlo vatn og avløpsselskap AS og Bømlo kommunale eigedomssekap AS, samt eit kommunalt føretak Bømlo kulturhus KF. Bømlo kommune deltek i interkommunalt samarbeid med Sunnhordland Interkommunale Miljøverk IKS, Karmsund Havnevesen IKS, Sunnhordland interkommunale barnevern med Fitjar og Stord kommune, og Sunnhordland Interkommunale Innkjøpsforum. Dette er eit samarbeidsprosjekt på innkjøp mellom kommunane Stord, Bømlo, Fitjar, Kvinnherad og Tysnes.
