BonaRes, short for “Soil as a sustainable resource for the bioeconomy,” is a German research initiative focused on the sustainable use and management of soils. Funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, it aims to deepen scientific understanding of soil ecosystems, improve soil productivity and other soil functions, and develop strategies for using soils responsibly. The BonaRes Centre brings together soil research data and makes it available for general use, with a particular focus on findings from BonaRes collaborative projects and long-term field experiments in Germany. It also incorporates public-sector soil information, including monitoring and research data from other sources.

Through its service portal, BonaRes provides several resources for researchers and other users. The BonaRes Portal offers access to the project website, while the BonaRes Cloud supports collaboration and document sharing among project partners. The LTE Map presents an overview of long-term experiments in Europe, and the Soil Profile Database enables users to search for or publish soil profiles.
