The Bonita Springs Historical Society is a Florida nonprofit dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the history of Bonita Springs. Founded in 1984 by local history enthusiasts, the Society works to record the community’s heritage and share it with residents and visitors through education, historical interpretation, and community engagement. Its central site is the Historic McSwain Home Museum and Gardens, a 1915 house built by the McSwain family, early settlers in the area.
Donated to the Society in 2011, the home is being carefully restored and maintained as a tangible link to Bonita Springs’ past. Visitors can take a virtual tour or join a free, docent-led tour on Saturdays; private appointments are also available. The Society offers memberships, events, volunteer opportunities, newsletters, an image archive, and a shop, and invites donations to support its work.
Current priorities include the home’s long-term care, protection of a historic downtown green space, and expanded educational programming. The museum and gardens also provide a setting for community connection and local organizations
