Bookshop by the Blackdowns is an independent, family-run bookshop in the centre of Wellington, Somerset, near the Blackdown Hills and the border with Devon. Rooted in its local community, the shop celebrates Somerset and welcomes residents, visitors and travellers exploring the West Country. Its location just off Junction 26 of the M5 makes it a convenient stop, surrounded by a lively mix of small independent shops.
The bookshop offers a carefully selected range of adult and children’s fiction and non-fiction, with a particular emphasis on the natural world. Visitors can also browse unusual, beautiful cards and gifts, many with a book-themed design. The shop’s welcoming focus is reflected in its motto: “For You. For Our Community. For Our World.” Alongside its books and gifts, Bookshop by the Blackdowns features local authors, reading lists and events, helping connect readers with stories and the wider community. The shop is at 2 South Street, Wellington, and opens Wednesday to Saturday, with shorter hours on Saturdays.
