About boothbooks.co.uk
Richard Booth’s Bookshop is a landmark independent bookshop in Hay-on-Wye, established in 1962. Inspired by the idea that a town centred on books could attract visitors from around the world, Richard Booth helped transform Hay-on-Wye into the world’s first booktown. Located on Lion Street, the bookshop extends across three floors and brings together a wide-ranging collection of books, organised by specialist department heads.
The shop offers both new and secondhand titles, including out-of-print editions, classic reprints and recently published books. Visitors can also explore a curated Art & Craft department featuring books, supplies and materials. A colour-coded floor plan helps customers navigate the extensive stock and find the books they are looking for.
Beyond bookselling, Richard Booth’s Bookshop shares news and information about cultural events in Hay-on-Wye and the surrounding area. Its website also features the Richard Booth’s Bookshop Cinema, with an entrance on Brook Street and a schedule available to visitors.
