BORA is a Brazilian deep-tech startup developing contactless palm authentication and payment technology. Incubated at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC), the company is building its own operating system, AI models and biometric dataset in Brazil. Its sensor combines an RGB camera, which reads visible palm features, with infrared imaging that detects the person’s unique vein pattern. Presence checks help confirm that the hand has pulsing blood. Users authenticate by placing a hand on the sensor, without needing a phone, card or QR code.

BORA’s technology is designed for use across several industries. In transport, it can support fast access and help reduce fraud in fare programs. Retailers can use it for customer identification and loyalty, while payment providers can explore palm authentication for transactions, including Pix. Other applications include gym access, event accreditation and payments, and contactless access control for healthcare staff. BORA is developing its AI and hardware with a focus on accuracy, security and Brazilian technological capability, and works with partners on technology integration, manufacturing and payment-system connections.
