The Borneo Rhino Alliance (BORA) is a dedicated non-governmental organization based in Sabah, Malaysia, established in 2008 to spearhead efforts in conserving the critically endangered Sumatran rhinoceros. With the perilous population dwindling to fewer than ten individuals in Borneo, BORA aims to prevent the species’ extinction through a multifaceted approach. The organization actively cares for the last three surviving Sumatran rhinos housed in the Tabin Wildlife Reserve, conducting vital research and applying advanced reproductive technologies.

BORA collaborates closely with the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research, utilizing innovative methods to collect gametes from the remaining rhinos to attempt embryo production in laboratories. Additionally, BORA focuses on outreach, funding, and partnerships to capture any remaining wild rhinos. The organization strives to raise awareness about wildlife conservation challenges while advocating for urgent conservation initiatives in the region. Through its commitment and scientific approach, BORA represents hope for the survival of one of the world’s most endangered species.
