The Bank of Tanzania is the country’s central bank, responsible for supporting economic stability and the integrity of the financial sector. Its mission is to maintain price stability and promote inclusive economic growth. The Bank conducts monetary policy, manages financial markets and foreign exchange reserves, and serves as the sole issuer of Tanzania’s banknotes and coins. It also acts as a banker to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar.

The Bank provides public access to economic and financial statistics, exchange rates, policy statements, reports, research and other publications. It also shares information on currency, government securities and financial-sector rules, and invites feedback on draft regulations.
