BotSocSA

The Botanical Society of South Africa (BotSoc) is a member-driven organisation dedicated to conserving, cultivating, studying and promoting the wise use of South Africa’s indigenous plants and vegetation. Founded more than a century ago to support the country’s national botanical gardens, BotSoc now works through regional branches and partnerships to address biodiversity challenges across the country. Its community brings together citizen scientists, nature enthusiasts, environmental professionals and the wider public to help protect South Africa’s rich plant heritage.

BotSoc offers opportunities to learn about indigenous flora and ecosystems, grow water-wise native plants, take part in conservation initiatives and connect with others who share an interest in nature. Its work includes the CREW Programme, conservation projects, stewardship, ex-situ plant collections, youth development and efforts to address the succulent plant crisis and identify Important Plant Areas. Members and supporters can access educational resources such as factsheets, webinars, an environmental impact assessment course, publications and the Veld & Flora magazine.
