Bourne Water Dragons is a Dorset-based charity and dragon boating team launched in May 2019 to support the rehabilitation, health and wellbeing of people following cancer treatment. Based in Iford, Bournemouth, the team paddles on the River Stour and welcomes adults of all ages, fitness levels and abilities who have experienced any type of cancer. Beginners are encouraged, and members are advised to join at least three months after completing treatment. Cancer survivors’ supporters are also welcome to get involved.
The team provides an inclusive, friendly environment where people can enjoy dragon boating, build fitness and share the camaraderie of fellow paddlers. Its activities are open to people with varied experiences, and the organisation shares members’ stories to highlight the role paddling and community can play after cancer. Bourne Water Dragons also publishes club news and event updates, takes part in dragon boat events, and invites people to join, offer support or make a donation.
