The Faraday Institution is the UK’s independent institute for electrochemical energy storage research, skills development, market analysis, and early-stage commercialisation. It brings together 500+ researchers from 25 UK universities and 140+ UK industry partners on projects with commercial potential that will reduce battery cost, weight, and volume; improve performance and reliability, and develop whole-life strategies including recycling and reuse. The Faraday Institution community is a broad group and comprises people and organisations active in the UK electrochemical energy storage sector, including academia – whether directly funded by the Faraday Institution or not – industry, and government. We encourage everyone working in this space to keep in touch with us, via social media and our website, to keep informed of our latest news and events in energy storage and as we share community successes.

Battery Parameter eXchange (BPX) is an open standard developed to give the battery industry a shared definition for physics-based battery models. Supported by the Faraday Institution, BPX helps manufacturers, developers and researchers apply model insights across a broad range of scenarios. By promoting interoperability and data exchange, the standard aims to reduce fragmentation, build trust, and lower the time and costs involved in the battery-model supply chain.
BPX offers downloadable standard versions and information about simulators that accept BPX parameter inputs, including PyBaMM, DandeLiion, AVL CRUISE M, GT-AutoLion and Ansys Fluent. The standard builds on research from the Faraday Institution’s Multi-scale Modelling project, which focuses on accurate battery models to extend battery-pack lifetime and performance. Battery modellers can suggest features through GitHub discussion boards, while a steering group of industry and research experts advises on the standard’s future development. BPX welcomes input from across the modelling community and is supported by organisations including BMW Group and JLR.
