Breakthrough K9 Training

Breakthrough K9 Training is a professional dog-training provider based in Mechanicsville, Virginia, serving the greater Richmond area and clients across Virginia, Maryland, Washington, D.C., North Carolina, and West Virginia. The company specializes in immersive board-and-train programs designed to build reliable behavior in everyday settings. Owners can choose structured two-, three-, four-, or five-week programs, with training tailored to each dog’s needs, from foundational obedience and improved manners to more complex behavior challenges.

Training uses operant conditioning, clear feedback, focused practice, structured walks, and supervised exposure to real-world environments and distractions. Core skills include sit, down, stay, recall, and place, alongside leash manners, impulse control, and socialization. Breakthrough K9 also works with dogs experiencing reactivity, fear, anxiety, resource guarding, boundary issues, and aggression; severe aggression cases are considered individually. Special-needs dogs may receive customized approaches.

Dogs train on a 20-acre farm with climate-controlled kennels, turf play yards, and an indoor space designed to resemble a home. The facility also provides dog boarding, and staff are on-site daily for care and supervision.
