The Bronx Documentary Center is a non-profit brand that serves as both a gallery and educational space. Our primary mission is to provide underserved Bronx communities and the larger cultural community with access to photography, film, and new media. Through our community-based documentary practice and education, we aim to explore important issues, stimulate critical thought, and drive social change.

Founded by Michael Kamber, a former conflict and war photographer for The New York Times, our center was established after his return to the Bronx in 2011. Recognizing the need for a space that would grant the South Bronx access to high-quality documentary work, Kamber partnered with co-founder Danielle Jackson to convert an abandoned landmarked building into the Bronx Documentary Center's permanent home. With over 60 major exhibitions and numerous public programs, our center is dedicated to creating a robust and engaging experience for our visitors.

We offer film screenings, lectures, workshops, and free guided exhibition tours for over 5,000 students. Additionally, we actively engage with the South Bronx community through various service projects. We are proud to have welcomed over 60,000 visitors to our gallery and have seen significant participation in our programs.
