Oyate Group is a nonprofit organization whose name comes from the Dakota word for “people,” reflecting its mission to serve communities and alleviate poverty. Working across New York City and the Dominican Republic, the organization aims to close resource gaps through education, direct services and sustainable, community-led solutions.

Its programs support young people, entrepreneurs, small businesses and neighborhoods. Youth services include mentorship, college and career readiness, and STEM, advocacy and arts education. Rise Leadership helps high school students develop as community leaders and social change makers. For entrepreneurs, Oyate Group offers business workshops, individual coaching, grant support, resource navigation, pop-up markets and networking opportunities. Initiatives such as Beyond Rising, Mott Haven Rising and Rising Restaurateur provide funding, mentorship and business development support.

The organization also responds to urgent community needs through food distribution, health outreach, violence prevention and youth diversion, and the distribution of essentials such as backpacks, shoes and toys. Its international work includes scholarships, disaster relief, and education and health resources in the Dominican Republic.
