Bergamot is an innovative project dedicated to enhancing client-side machine translation directly within web browsers, primarily through the TranslateLocally extension for Mozilla Firefox. This initiative stands out by ensuring that all translation occurs locally on the user's device, providing a private and secure alternative to cloud-based services. With models supporting over a dozen languages, including English, Spanish, German, and Italian, Bergamot promotes multilingual communication effortlessly and confidentially.

The project is led by a consortium that includes esteemed institutions such as the University of Edinburgh and Mozilla, and it has received backing from the EU’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program. Beyond just end-users, Bergamot offers resources for developers and researchers interested in contributing to its open-source libraries and utilities. Users are encouraged to download the extension and share feedback, helping to shape future developments. Experience seamless and secure translations with Bergamot, where your privacy matters.
