Fonden for Socialt Ansvar

Brug Folkeskolen is an initiative of Fonden for Socialt Ansvar, working since 2003 to make the local public school a natural choice and meeting place for all children in its district. It focuses on Copenhagen neighbourhoods where families often choose schools elsewhere or where pupils frequently leave, including Sydhavnen, Nordvest, Nørrebro, Østerbro and Amager. The initiative aims to strengthen trust in local schools and counter social, economic and ethnic segregation.

Its approach centres on parents as active partners. Brug Folkeskolen connects parents of current pupils with families preparing for school entry, helping them build networks and develop meaningful relationships with schools and their communities. Parents can volunteer as school ambassadors, take part in open-house events and activities, and speak with prospective families during kindergarten visits and community events. The initiative also works with school staff, after-school services, local associations and public decision-makers to support stronger parent-school collaboration and more inclusive school communities. Through these partnerships, it seeks to promote educational equality, belonging and cohesion for children and families.
