BRUK

BRUK is a Kyiv-based cultural platform bringing the city’s history to life through its buildings. Launched in 2025, the project creates an interactive 3D map of central Kyiv, where selected buildings open to reveal concise, source-backed stories about when they were built, who lived there, and what they have witnessed. Rather than functioning as a conventional encyclopedia or tourist guide, BRUK presents the city as a living archive, making its architectural and social history accessible through everyday streets and homes.

The map currently features 852 buildings across 58 central Kyiv streets, alongside 14 city walks and stories involving 125 people. Visitors can explore architectural details, historical context, and the changing character of places such as Khreshchatyk. BRUK also shares an image archive and invites people to contribute stories, volunteer, or collaborate in research, writing, photography, architecture, and development. Founded by Kyiv-born designer Yelyzaveta Volkova and historian Milana Sribniak, the project values openness, respect for memory, engaging education, and the significance of local stories.
