BrumYODO is a Birmingham-based community collective that encourages and supports open, honest conversations about death, dying, bereavement and loss. Its work brings people together to create welcoming spaces for reflection, understanding and mutual support, including for those experiencing caregiving and grief. A key part of the collective’s programme is the annual A Matter of Life & Death Festival, held during Dying Matters Awareness Week.
The festival features community events, discussions, themed walks and author talks across Birmingham and beyond, exploring subjects connected with death and living well. BrumYODO also runs events throughout the year and collaborates with community groups and cultural partners on creative projects. These include In Memoriam-inspired flags and installation art, offering ways for people to remember and share experiences of loss.
The collective provides event information, news, blogs and resources, and invites people to volunteer, participate, follow its social media channels or support its work through donations. Through these activities, BrumYODO aims to help communities talk more freely about death and dying
