Bruner Lab is a research group focused on understanding how natural products are made by biological systems. Its work brings together synthetic organic chemistry, protein crystallography, and mechanistic enzymology to investigate the mechanisms of natural product biosynthetic machinery. By clarifying how these pathways function, the group aims to support the rational engineering of biologically useful molecules.
The lab’s research encompasses genome mining for natural products, SRP in pediatric leukemias, the chemistry of biosynthetic enzymes, and metabolites of the human microbiome. These themes connect the discovery and study of natural products with questions in chemistry and biology. The group also shares its scientific output through publications and provides information about its research, members, alumni, and group activities.
Bruner Lab’s community includes researchers and undergraduate students, with the group highlighting student achievements and experiences in research and education. Its activities include teaching opportunities related to natural products biosynthesis and participation in research that can involve beam time.
