El Brut i la Bruta is a traditional carnival celebration and cultural initiative rooted in Torà, Lleida. Originating in the historic Festa de la Llordera, the event is documented from at least 1623 and was revived in 1990 by local young people seeking to restore the tradition while preserving its identity. It brings together popular satire, community festivities and modern entertainment, making it one of the town’s principal celebrations.
Distinctive characters are central to the festival. The Bonic and Bonica perform dances in the square, while the Brut and Bruta parody them; the Lloca traditionally collects food from local homes. Since 1994, a procession of giants representing these characters and other local figures has grown to include the Brut, Bruta, Bonic, Bonica, Constantí, Lloca and Sargentet.
The festival offers public programs featuring giants, concerts, music and street entertainment, as well as photo galleries and first-person stories from participants and organisers. Its website also provides event information, a shop and details about official supporters.
