Building Malawi

Building Malawi is a UK-based charity working with local partners to create sustainable, Malawian-run schools, libraries and sports facilities in Lilongwe. Its projects are designed to become financially self-sufficient and to keep serving their communities over the long term. The charity has built and opened four schools and four libraries, and its work includes education, sport, community facilities and climate-related initiatives.

Its latest project, Lingadzi Academy, is being developed across 22 acres in west Lilongwe. Plans include free-to-use netball, volleyball and football facilities, a community library and a playground, with a school and community hall to follow. The site also includes the Grace Hadman Netball Court.

Building Malawi invites people to volunteer in Malawi by coaching, teaching, helping with construction or planting trees, and welcomes donations, partnerships, fundraising and sports equipment. Volunteers cover their own expenses; visits are free to arrange. The charity states that 100% of donations reach its projects in Malawi, with unavoidable UK bank charges paid separately.
