Bukowinafreunde

Bukowinafreunde is an independent cultural and historical information platform focused on the Bukowina, also known as Buchenland, and the history of its German-speaking community. It serves descendants of the Buchenland Germans, researchers, and anyone interested in this historically diverse region, which today spans parts of Romania and Ukraine. The site presents articles on the Bukowina’s history, its Austrian period, the city of Czernowitz, and the many nationalities and cultures that shaped local life.

Its resources include family-history materials, German church records, place lists, literature, publications, and information about associations and institutions. Visitors can also explore eyewitness accounts, personal recollections, biographies, cultural stories, recipes, music, travel reports, and a media library featuring churches and other regional subjects. The platform highlights the migration and resettlement of the Buchenland Germans, as well as the community’s later history and continuing cultural connections. Drawing on historical information and personal testimony, Bukowinafreunde helps preserve knowledge of the region and makes its shared heritage accessible to an international audience.
