The Bund der Historischen Deutschen Schützenbruderschaften e.V. (BHDS) is an association representing historic German shooting brotherhoods, with roots in the Rhineland and Westphalia. Founded in 1928, it supports a tradition that grew from medieval civic defence groups and later Catholic brotherhoods. The Schützenwesen has been recognised as intangible cultural heritage in Germany since 2015.

Guided by the motto “For faith, morality and homeland,” the BHDS aims to preserve and pass on traditions and values while placing people and active neighbourly care at the heart of its work. It serves its member brotherhoods and welcomes anyone interested in learning about the movement.

The organisation supports shooting sport, flag-swinging, youth activities and charitable engagement. It also provides information, guidance, rulebooks, statutes, awards and resources for members, alongside event listings and reports on Schützenwesen. Its activities include competitions and national gatherings such as the Bundesfest and Bundesjungschützentag. Through its diocesan and district networks, the BHDS connects local brotherhoods and promotes community, heritage and participation across generations.
