Bureau Winterkoning is the ecological fieldwork and nature-guiding business of Stefan Slings. Since 2019, it has supported organisations with wildlife surveys and clear reporting, including breeding-bird monitoring in the Netherlands and Germany, and surveys of butterflies, grasshoppers and dragonflies under the Dutch Nature and Landscape Subsidy system. Its work also includes species-focused studies under the Environment and Planning Act, such as bat research, owl territory mapping, nest checks and flight-route surveys for birds of prey and black storks.

Alongside its ecological services, Bureau Winterkoning offers small-group birding excursions in the Netherlands, sharing knowledge of local habitats, bird behaviour and landscape ecology. It also organises personally guided bird and nature trips in Catalonia, visiting the eastern Pyrenees, Mediterranean coast and other notable regional sites. Trips may include access to a vulture feeding station and opportunities to observe a wide range of birds and other wildlife. Across its fieldwork, excursions and travel programmes, the business combines practical ecological expertise with an attentive, educational approach to experiencing nature.
