About Burgenklettersteig
The Manderscheider Burgenklettersteig is an outdoor adventure attraction in Manderscheid, in Germany’s Vulkaneifel region. Set among the area’s famous castles and the rocky slopes of the Lieser Valley, it offers a distinctive via ferrata experience combining physical challenge with dramatic natural scenery. The route is divided into three stages, leading along the Lieser and toward the Oberburg and Niederburg.
Difficulty ranges from A to D, with the third stage the most demanding; the course is described as the only via ferrata of its kind in Rhineland-Palatinate. The attraction received the Rhineland-Palatinate Tourism Award 2023 in the Innovation of the Year category. Visitors can rent required safety equipment, including helmets, climbing harnesses and via ferrata sets, through the GesundLand Tourist Information in Manderscheid.
Equipment is suitable for people weighing 40 to 120 kilograms, and a minimum height of 1. 40 metres is recommended. Beginner and advanced climbing courses are also available.
