Burleskiwi International Festival of Aotearoa, known as BIFA, is a New Zealand festival celebrating burlesque and its performers. The festival brings audiences and artists together in Papaioea/Palmerston North, with its 2027 event scheduled for 6–9 May at The Globe Theatre. BIFA invites performers to apply to take part and shares information about festival shows, workshops and its performers, offering visitors ways to explore the programme and the people behind it.
The festival also highlights the Twirling Tassels, including its awards and finalists and winners. BIFA’s visual identity draws on the kōwhai, Aotearoa’s unofficial national symbol. Its golden flowers are associated with strength, courage, determination, positivity and happiness, while their tassel-like shape and the softness of the leaves evoke burlesque costume details.
