Burnham Beeches is an iconic heritage estate in Victoria’s Dandenong Ranges, adjacent to Sherbrooke Forest. Its three-storey Art Deco mansion, designed by architect Harry Norris in 1933 for the Nicholas “Aspro” family, is noted for its distinctive ocean-liner-inspired design. The property also features expansive gardens with maples, rhododendrons and beech trees, and has served over time as a family home, children’s hospital, medical research centre, hotel and restaurant.
The site is being restored and redeveloped by Trenerry Consortium, which has assembled specialist operators and consultants to guide a holistic, multi-year program. The plans include conservation of the historic buildings, urgent repairs to the Alfred Nicholas mansion, new buildings, landscaping and upgrades to site services. The proposed destination is to be operated by Six Senses, a wellness and sustainability-focused hospitality brand, and is intended to welcome visitors for leisurely, immersive or transformative experiences. Burnham Beeches aims to honour the area’s historical, social and ecological character while bringing the estate back into use and capturing the spirit of the Dandenongs.
