Welcome to Butterflies of America! We are a brand that is dedicated to the study and appreciation of American butterflies. With over 160,500 images and a database listing more than 8,300 species, we are constantly growing and expanding our collection of butterfly information. Our goal is to create a comprehensive online resource that covers taxonomy, identification, distribution, habitat, life history, and bibliography for all butterfly taxa in America.

This includes species, subspecies, and undescribed geographic variants. On our website, you can learn about the authors and advisors who contribute to the content and get a deeper understanding of our project. We also have pages that cover both North and South America, allowing you to explore the diverse range of butterflies in these regions.

In addition, we offer an interactive synonymic catalogue for the United States and Canada, making it easier for you to navigate and find relevant information. Please note that this website is continuously evolving, and while we strive for accuracy, errors may occur. If you come across any incorrect identifications, we encourage you to reach out to one of the authors for clarification.

Our images are carefully edited to highlight the features necessary for identification and visual enjoyment. Lastly, we would greatly appreciate your support for the Butterflies of America Foundation, as it plays a crucial role in sustaining our efforts.
