About Central Alabama Water
Birmingham Water Works is the largest water system in Alabama, proudly serving high-quality drinking water to over 770,000 people in the City of Birmingham and five counties. Established in 1950, our focus has always been on providing the best water service to our customers at an affordable price. As an innovative water leader, we prioritize efficient operations, environmental stewardship, and community engagement.
Our range of services includes managing customer accounts, offering various payment and billing options, starting and stopping water service, reporting problems, and providing information on rates and fees. We also prioritize water resources and maintain a commitment to water quality, regularly publishing reports on the same. In addition, we support community programs and participate in main replacement projects.
Governed by a nine-member Board of Directors, we are committed to strategic direction, fiscal responsibility, and sustainable growth. With major expansions over the years, we now boast four water sources and over 4000 miles of transmission lines.
