The British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) is the leading yoga teaching organization in the UK, providing a vibrant membership of yogis with a lifelong yoga journey. Founded in 1965 by Wilfred Clark, who served in the army during World War I and later became a journalist, the BWY began as The Wheel of British Yoga before changing its name to The Western Yoga Federation and ultimately settling on The British Wheel of Yoga in 1974. Since then, the organization has been dedicated to spreading the yoga message and promoting a greater understanding of yoga and its safe practice.
With a high standard of yoga teacher training, the BWY offers a teacher training program accredited at Level 4, while also accrediting other yoga teacher training organizations. They provide a range of courses, events, and further study options to support members in developing their personal and professional understanding of yoga. In addition, the BWY celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2015 with a special yoga event at its annual Congress.
