Climate Action Against Disinformation (CAAD) is a coalition dedicated to combating the spread of climate mis/disinformation. Their recent report, Deny, Deceive, Delay (Vol 2), sheds light on the disinformation prevalent at the COP27 climate summit. The report reveals that various actors tied to the fossil fuel industry spent approximately $4 million on paid advertisements through Meta, spreading false claims about the climate crisis, net-zero targets, and the necessity of fossil fuels.

The analysis conducted by CAAD's COP27 Intelligence Unit, consisting of analysts from 18 organizations led by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD), also highlighted a significant increase in outright climate denial, particularly on Twitter with the hashtag #ClimateScam. The report further exposes the narrative playbook employed by disinformation campaigns, including exploiting the cost of living crisis, casting doubt on green technology, framing loss and damage discussions as climate reparations, and connecting climate skepticism to culture wars. This report is especially timely, coinciding with the appointment of Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, an oil executive, as the COP28 President.
