The Capitol Area Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization serving military officers, their families, survivors, and the wider community. Chartered in 1970, the Michigan chapter has more than 170 members and is affiliated with MOAA and the Michigan Council of Chapters. Its work focuses on advocating for a strong national defense and protecting earned military and veterans’ benefits through state and national legislative engagement.
The chapter shares information through regular newsletters and encourages veterans to learn about benefits available through the Department of Veterans Affairs. It also recognizes student achievement by presenting MOAA medals to area high school and Michigan State University ROTC and JROTC students. Members can take part in community service, including support for veterans’ organizations, Toys for Tots, the VFW National Home, VA facilities, local elections, and Wreaths Across America.
Membership is open to eligible commissioned and warrant officers across the uniformed services and surviving spouses
