Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory focused on turning scientific research into practical solutions for a safer, more secure and sustainable future. Bringing together researchers, specialized facilities and industry and government partners, INL works across three mission areas: nuclear energy, integrated energy and national security.
In nuclear energy, the laboratory advances reactor technologies, fuels and reliable power, supporting the development and testing of advanced reactors and helping accelerate innovation from research toward deployment. Its capabilities include extensive nuclear facilities and a fleet of 55 reactors. Integrated energy research connects electricity generation with transportation and the power grid, addressing challenges that affect the nation’s energy systems and economic prosperity. INL’s national security work develops capabilities intended to strengthen everyday protection and defense.
The laboratory also supports technology transfer and commercialization, offering ways for businesses and partners to collaborate, access expertise and move innovations forward. Its broader services include research partnerships, user facilities, education programs, STEM resources, internships and community engagement.
