About Consortium of African Funds for the Environment
The Consortium of African Funds for the Environment (CAFÉ) is a membership-based network of Environmental Funds (EFs) in Africa, also known as Conservation Trust Funds (CTFs). Since its establishment in 2011, CAFÉ has been dedicated to championing sustainable environmental financing on the continent. With 19 Member Funds, CAFÉ supports over 90 parks and reserves, along with 125 communal conservancies and community forests, spanning over 270,000 km² across 20 countries.
These efforts are backed by a remarkable endowment of over USD400 million and approximately USD100 million in sinking funds. CAFÉ's mission is to build a learning community that shares best practices and pursues innovative finance mechanisms, fostering conservation, environmental management, and sustainable development in Africa. They envision becoming a globally respected alliance for championing sustainable environmental financing.
CAFÉ's structure includes a General Assembly, which defines the strategic direction, an Executive Committee responsible for implementing resolutions, and subcommittees focused on specific areas of interest. The Executive Secretariat acts in the collective interest of CAFÉ members, hosted by the Fund holding the Presidency. CAFÉ is proud of its financial support from donors and invites everyone to connect and stay updated through their website and various social media platforms
