About Café Luso
Café Luso is a legendary fado house with a restaurant that was founded in 1927. Situated in the vibrant Bairro Alto, it occupies the old wineries and stables of Palácio Brito Freire, which withstood the devastating earthquake of 1755. The grand marble columns proudly showcase the building's history, creating an atmosphere of dignity and charm.
The unique acoustics resulting from the vaulted stone and brick ceilings provide the perfect setting for the enchanting fado sessions, which begin at 8:00 p. m. The performances take place in the heart of the room, surrounded by closed curtains and soft lighting, creating an intimate ambiance for both musicians and guests.
With a seating capacity of 160, the spacious room offers customers a privileged view of the stage. The décor features ceramic panels by Mestre Ferreira da Silva from the 60s, as well as paintings by Norberto Nunes. Café Luso also boasts a separate elegant space, Luso Café, where customers can enjoy bar service and admire fado-themed decorations and historical images.
It provides a cozy atmosphere for conversations and is a perfect starting point for a memorable night of fado. In addition to fado, Café Luso serves delicious food, with its restaurant seamlessly integrated into the fado experience. Café Luso is an iconic establishment with a rich history spanning over 90 years, making it one of the most renowned fado houses in the world
