Café Sperl is a historic Viennese coffeehouse in Mariahilf, located on Gumpendorfer Straße in Vienna. Established in 1880, it was designed by Ringstrasse architects Gross and Jelinek and taken over by the Sperl family in the same year. The café has retained its traditional character, with original interiors, marble tables, Thonet chairs and distinctive billiard tables. Over the years, it became a meeting place for architects, artists, musicians, actors and writers, and remains part of Vienna’s cultural life.
Visitors can enjoy classic Viennese coffeehouse hospitality alongside a menu featuring traditional Viennese dishes and homemade pastries, including the café’s Sperl Torte. The venue also offers classic billiards and daily newspapers, including selected international publications, for guests to read at their leisure. Weekend piano performances bring live music to the historic setting. Combining food, music, reading and recreation, Café Sperl offers an atmosphere shaped by more than a century of coffeehouse tradition while continuing to serve as a place for everyday visits and cultural gatherings.
