About CAIA
CAIA, the Chemical & Allied Industries' Association, was established in 1994 to represent a diverse range of interests within the chemical industry in South Africa. With 135 members including chemical manufacturers, traders, and industry service providers, CAIA aims to promote continuous improvement in safety, health, and environmental performance while enhancing the productivity and competitiveness of the chemical and allied industries. The association plays a crucial role in fostering sustainability in the industry.
CAIA's primary goals include promoting the globally recognized Responsible Care® initiative, earning public trust for the chemical industry, supporting education initiatives in science and technology, and creating maximum value for its member companies. Through its board of CEOs and the leadership of Executive Director Deidré Penfold, CAIA works to represent and advocate for its members' interests, ensuring a constructive relationship with government and NGOs. CAIA also offers key benefits to its members, such as access to government advocacy activities, support on occupational safety and health issues, and representation in the development of relevant national standards.
