About Calamity
Calamity is a global disaster-monitoring platform that aggregates public scientific data to help users explore observed hazards and possible cascading scenarios. Its live map and dashboards track activity across 16 hazard categories, including earthquakes, wildfires, floods, cyclones, volcanoes, tsunamis, droughts, severe weather, air quality, disease outbreaks, solar storms, and near-Earth objects. The platform draws on 94 enabled registry sources, including USGS, NASA FIRMS, NOAA, EMSC, GDACS, and other public agencies; data coverage and freshness vary by source.
Calamity provides recorded observations, event archives, country-level activity ratings, hazard-specific priority scores, and heuristic forecasts that explore potential links between hazards. Its indices and scenario weights are designed to support prioritization and are not calibrated probabilities, official warnings, or measures of vulnerability. The service also offers a public REST API for accessing events, forecasts, and ratings, with read access available without a key or registration. Users can explore the live map, review methodology and documentation, and find pricing information.
