Calla

Calla is a Czech environmental association founded in 1991, working to protect nature and the environment, particularly in South Bohemia. The organisation combines public education, expert advice and advocacy, helping people engage with local environmental issues and decisions. Its work covers energy policy, uranium mining, nuclear waste, renewable energy and climate change, alongside the protection and restoration of natural habitats and species.

Calla organises public talks, seminars, conferences, exhibitions, guided nature walks and volunteer activities. Its conservation projects focus on places such as sandpits and other valuable landscapes, and include efforts to support endangered species, restore habitats and encourage responsible site management. The association also promotes biodiversity in towns and gardens, sharing practical guidance on trees, dead wood, wetlands, flower meadows and habitats for insects and other wildlife.

Through its publications and newsletter, Ďáblík, Calla shares environmental information and perspectives with the public. It also provides environmental advice and supports community participation in issues such as landscape protection and the proposed deep geological repository for radioactive waste.
