About California State Parks Foundation
California State Parks Foundation is an independent, member-supported nonprofit that is dedicated to protecting and preserving the California state park system for the benefit of all. With a history spanning over 50 years, the foundation has been the leading statewide voice, advocating for a sustainably funded state park system, access to parks for all, and enduring park protection. They work in partnership with the California Department of Parks and Recreation to engage a broader audience of park supporters and inspire philanthropy.
California's state parks are renowned for their diverse natural and cultural heritage holdings, which include beaches, underwater refuges, cultural preserves, museums, lighthouses, ghost towns, recreation areas, and wilderness areas. These parks feature iconic natural features such as peaks, deserts, redwoods, and coastlines, attracting visitors from all over the world. Over the years, the foundation has acquired land for the state to preserve these treasures for future generations.
They have also played a crucial role in advocating for the maintenance and improvement of crumbling park infrastructure. Additionally, the foundation strives to ensure that all Californians have equal access to state parks and the numerous health and wellness benefits they offer. Through the support of their dedicated community of over 70,000 members, the organization has raised more than $300 million to benefit state parks.
Currently, California boasts the largest and most biologically diverse state park system in the nation, consisting of 279 park units that contribute significantly to the state's environment, economy, and quality of life. By supporting California State Parks Foundation, individuals can contribute to the ongoing efforts to defend and enhance the state park system. Donations of any amount help strengthen the foundation's impactful work and ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy the natural beauty, cultural heritage, and educational opportunities offered by California's state parks
