Cal Poly Racing

Cal Poly Racing, based in San Luis Obispo, CA, is a renowned brand offering a unique experience for engineering students. Their Formula SAE team stands out by simultaneously building both combustion and electric vehicles on the same platform, showcasing their expertise in a wide range of fields. With 15 main subsystems, students can join teams that align with their knowledge and interests.

Their Formula SAE vehicles boast shared components such as steering and braking systems, as well as a carbon fiber monocoque chassis specially tailored for both combustion and electric platforms. Both cars are equipped with full aerodynamic packages, double-wishbone suspensions with innovative Z-bar anti-roll bars, and lightweight Drexler limited-slip differentials. The combustion vehicle, named Karlie (CP23C), features a low center of gravity, top mounted shocks, and a powerful Yamaha YZ450FX 450cc single-cylinder engine paired with an electronically shifted 5-speed sequential transmission.

The electric vehicle, known as Kiki (CP23E), showcases significant improvements in build quality, leveraging new Tesla high-density batteries. Striving for the lightest vehicle possible, the team aims to surpass their previous achievements every year. If you're interested in joining Cal Poly Racing, they invite you to weekly meetings held on Thursdays at 11 am in room 192-106.
